Tequila review: Jose Cuervo 1800 Anejo

CaptureImagine you’re at a party, looking for something more special than the usual Vodkas, Whiskies, Gins, etc., and you experience a shot of the richest and smoothest Tequila you’ve ever had, with a hint of spiciness. Well, don’t be surprised if this turns out to be the famed Jose Cuervo 1800 Anejo, a connoisseur’s Tequila made for those who appreciate the finest Tequila that money can buy.

1800 is a special year in the history of Tequila, as this year marked the first time that Tequila was successfully aged in wood. Containing one of the purest bases, a  100% extract from the blue agave plant native to Jalisco, Mexico, Launched first in 1975 as a premium sipping Tequila, the Tequila is a dark amber in colour with copper highlights and comes in a splendid Inca-esque bottle.

This spirit has a heady fragrance, combining the heady aromas of roasted nuts, dark toffee, toasty coconut, mocha and brown spices. This intense beginning gives way to a full-bodied palate of roasted nutds, chocolate covered dates and figs, perfumed spices and toasty oak notes. The finish comprises spicy, sweet toffee and oak spice. All in all, the taste is very balanced and luxurious.
