A Royal Affair

Royal Salute is a prestigious luxury Scotch Whisky brand manufactured by Chivas Brothers under the ownership of the French company Pernod Ricard. This rich blend is produced at the Strathisla distillery at Keith in Speyside, Scotland.

he first bottles of Royal Salute were produced on June 2, 1953, as a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her coronation. Since then, the Whisky has represented itself in three different glazes, each denoting the precious stones of the Imperial State Crown – rubies, sapphires and emeralds.

Considering the history that Royal Salute shares with the Queen, it was no surprise that Chivas decided to launch ‘The Diamond Tribute’ by Royal Salute on the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II’s 62-round royal gun salute for the 60^th anniversary of her coronation ceremony.  The Diamond Tribute was introduced at the Tower of London on June 4, 2013, and served at the reception in Her Majesty’s palace.

Marking the coronation anniversary of the Queen with the Diamond Tribute seemed to do justice, as this blend represents royalty in all its glory. Made by blending the most precious of aged Whiskies, this Chivas creation truly captures the rareness and exquisiteness that a diamond represents, making it the perfect royal affair. The whiskies in this blend come from a locked vault in the Royal Salute Strathisla distillery, where they are stored in guarded casks for a minimum period of 21 years.

Colin Scott, the master blender for Royal Salute, describes this Whisky as having “immeasurable depth, with rich aromas of peaches and sweet poached pears, complemented by a sensation of sherry, and a wonderful spicy liquorice tang. It has a long, sweet and luscious warmth to finish”.

The Royal Salute Diamond Tribute, according to Chivas CEO Christian Porta, is a luxury Whisky that is blended using a “combination of age and craftsmanship that gives it finesse and a rich complexity”.
